Over Nail Art? Never! Nails have been as big a feature as ever so far, in beauty trends coming out of London Fashion Week.

Nail brand Nail Rock collaborated with visionary Georgian designer David Koma at the designers LFW SS14 show this at the BFC Courtyard Show Space at Somerset House this weekend.
Embossed and laced matte nails were on show. Models walked the runway showcasing a range of exclusive nails to compliment David’s bold, new collection.

Matte, square, nails were hole-punched and laced together with colours mirroring the palette of the collection. Nails were also embossed with intricate overlay letters spelling the word Koma, applied by celebrity manicurist Marian Newman.

“It is an absolute pleasure to be working with David again. His clear direction allows us to achieve a look, which perfectly complements his collection,” says Rock Beauty London’s Director of Innovation, Zoe Pocock.

“And, we are extremely happy and proud to announce that, for the first time, we will be creating an exclusive David Koma for Nail Rock product launching early 2014 – watch this space!”

At the Whistles SS14 show, nails by Revlon UK Nail Ambassador, Jenny Longworth, harked back to the 90s with a true red. Red nails, it seems, never go out of fashion.

‘It’s a grown-up nail, with a 90s feel,’ says Jenny. “The colour is a true red, which stands out against the pared back beauty of the makeup.”

The makeup, created by Scots makeup artist Lynsey Alexander, using Revlon, is, as she put it:

“A girly summer fresh take on a 90s rave kid. Pared back beauty – very stark with a pop of colour on the cheeks to make them look wholesome. Boyish brows juxtaposed with girly lips and cheeks. Refined rawness!”

Meanwhile, the hair was looking wild over at Todd Lynn’s SS14 show, thanks to Mark Hampton, Global Hair Ambassador for TONI&GUY Hair Meet Wardrobe.
Todd Lynn’s SS14 collection looked at techniques of literal deconstruction. He was inspired by the depiction of an anarchic youth movement within William S Burroughs novel, The Wild Boys. Think raw white lace hems, meeting biker leathers.

“The Wild One’ hair was a step on from Todd Lynn’s AW13 ‘gang-girl’ styles. She’s grown-up; still the leader of the pack, but the ladylike demeanour has gone, and she’s more fierce; tougher than ever, rough and raw.

“We wanted to develop last season’s look for Todd – the character’s more rough and raw this season,” explains Hampton. “The look is less wavy, has a more aggressive texture. The sophisticated ponytail is gone – in its place a more edgy look, but still with a feminine twist.”
