ACHICA is a members-only online lifestyle store offering desirable brands at exceptional prices. We speak to DJCAD textiles graduate Anne Petrie, ACHICA’s assistant buyer about her favourite finds, her Instagram-heroes and how her degree has helped steer her career.

What is the one item in your home that makes you the happiest?

I have loads of Moroccan baskets that I have found from all different places which I’m totally obsessed with!

What’s a typical working day like for you?

A typical working day is going to the office and checking emails, having calendar meetings for upcoming promotions and going through artwork with the production team. This ensures we are showing product in the best way we can. We have regular catch-ups with the marketing team and often interview and visit designer’s homes to put on our ACHICA Living blog. There are lots of spreadsheets, pricing and negotiating. Finally, the best part: plenty of trade shows both in the UK and Europe. We are always on the hunt for new designers, the latest trends and the most up-to-date prices.

You studied textiles at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design. How does this play a role in buying?

Art school played a huge role into my job at ACHICA as it has taught me to be totally design focused. By designing my own homeware collection at DJCAD, I fully understand how much goes into the making of a product from the cost, time and design process. This is so important to understand as a buyer.

What has been your favourite find so far?

It has to be a brand called Yonder Living. Their product is fabulous. So colourful and ethnic.

If you could only follow five people on Instagram who would they be?

The first is TrendPulse, it’s my sisters trend forecasting company and always keeps me up to date! The other four would be Sheerluxe, Design Junction, Mercishopparis and Patternity.
