David Ferreira is a Portugal-based womenswear designer. Graduating from the BA (Hons) fashion design course at the university of Westminster in 2015, with his stand out collection ‘VFILES‘. David then went on to work with huge names such as Iris Van Herpen, Giles Deacon and Meadham Kirchoff.

His SS17 luxurious collection, ‘ I must be the reason for your erection’ is designed to empower women. Allowing them to escape from the traditional, and oppressive silhouette, traditionally associated with the female form. Using modern shapes, and unusual tailoring to create a structured figure. His collection brought a fresh, innovative twist to couture.

The highly desirable collection encompassed heavy embellishment, fringing and bold silhouettes, blurring the lines between fashion and art. A muted colour palette of blacks, whites peaches and creams was offset with opulent orange tones. Each colour story we saw at the show was crafted to send a different message. The simple elegance of his white garments represent the hidden desires and seemingly innocent facade, which are a crux of the stereotypical idea of what a woman is. His bright hues depict ladies who have embraced their innermost desires, the black showing the yearning to fit in coming to an end.

The themes behind the show, the opulence of the garments, and the soundtrack, were synonymous with the stunning backdrop of the Freemason’s hall. A building adorned with intricate cornicing, solid marble wall panelling and cascading marble staircases.
