As part of SR:D’s ten-year celebration at SR:D Glasgow, it is our pleasure to announce the first in a series of showroom collaborations. During our five-day November showcase, The Onward Gallery will exhibit a carefully curated selection of contemporary Scottish photographers. Having evolved from the online movement, Scot Street Style, Onward! is now the award-winning go-to destination for creative visionaries around the world.
“We are absolutely delighted to be collaborating with Scotland Re:Designed. As two recognisable forces in contemporary Scotland, coming together to share ideas at this stage is only just the beginning. We’re excited to see what the future holds.” – Gordon J. Millar.
From touring Scotland with the Dalai Lama, taking the World Peace Tartan to New York, to a chance encounter on 5th Avenue with Bill Cunningham, everything came into alignment for Gordon J. Millar. Drawing on his social media expertise and ability to connect people, he launched the transatlantic grassroots movement, Scot Street Style, which grew organically into Onward!
Onward! began as a showcase of Scotland’s vibrant creative community, published as a high quality hard back book and sold in Waterstones, Amazon and a selection of independent stores including Edinburgh’s oldest bookshop, Blackwells. Copies were personally given to Global influencers including Mahatma Gandhi’s grandson, Arun Gandhi, international rugby star, Tim Visser, world-renowned actor, Ewan McGregor amongst many others and the book has made it’s way to all corners of the world.
The Onward Gallery features incredible talents from all over Scotland and is growing on a weekly basis. It has been designed to be a place where customers can view an authentic and contemporary Scotland from anywhere in the world. More than just an online platform, ONWARD! is evolving to become the global showcase for Scotland. Onward! will be exhibiting five of their gallery members during SR:D Glasgow.
“It was only a few weeks ago since we launched our Onward Gallery and the response has been incredible” said Gordon J. Millar, otherwise known as “G”, “within an hour of launching the platform we had received more than 20 emails asking how photographers could get involved”, he continued.
“Our purpose is to reinvigorate the perceptions of Scotland into the future. Continually capturing the essence of what it means to be Scottish in the 21st Century. We’re a movement based on shared values, of positivity, inclusivity, confidence and graft for Scotland. Close to the ground, we’re an energetic network of social and commercial influence; swaying popular perceptions of our nation in a more positive direction.” – Gordon Millar
