SR:D Summer School - Day 1 & 2 package

Immerse yourself in our learning series and book to attend for both days:

Day 1 starts with the valuable ‘Business Basics Clinic’.

Experts in disciplines such as law, finance and sales will present the key principles of their business and what you should be aware of, or avoid, when establishing your business.

Our experts will then break out in to ‘clinics’ where the audience can interact in smaller groups and ask questions pertaining to their business concerns. This is an amazing opportunity for new, emerging and established designers to have access to expertise and knowledge that can help their business grow.

From law we have Gemma Ogilvie, Gemma is an intellectual property lawyer at Thorntons who advises clients on all areas of IP including copyright, design rights and brand protection. Gemma has a particular interest in the fashion industry, and alongside her legal career, she owns and manages her own independent fashion boutique in Edinburgh.

David Finlayson, of APM Agency, will advise on sales and working with agents to help drive sales and contacts. APM are Master European agents for brand names including Oakley, Nautica and Juicy Couture. David was formerly the President of Sales and Marketing of Calvin Klein Europe , MD of Donna Karan and has launched brands such as Chloe and Cavalli in to the European marketplace

We are also very excited to bring to you a presentation by Orsola De Castro, sponsored by Love Your Clothes, Scotland. Orsola will deliver a workshop session which will begin with her sharing her own journey and what has inspired her passion for up cycled fashion. She will share her involvement in the creation of Fashion Revolution Day and why the fashion industry needs to take responsibility for its actions.

This workshop will focus on how, as professionals working in the fashion industry, we can take actions every day that will contribute towards a sustainable fashion industry, without compromise to aesthetics or consumer. We anticipate this workshop will be of interest to designers, fashion writers and media experts and manufacturers of textiles and apparel.

Just a few of Orsola De Castro’s many accomplishments in fashion and sustainable fashion include starting her own label From Somewhere, collaborations with Jigsaw and Topshop, and co-founding Estethica, the sustainable fashion area at London Fashion Week.

Day 2 of our SR:D learning series will start with our founder, Chris Hunt, outlining precisely what SR:D provides, in terms of contacts, leads, sales, media coverage and past results. Chris will be joined by former SR:D exhibitor, Kestin Hare, who will help detail the amazing opportunities SR:D creates and how designers can maximize them, while interacting professionally with the many industry experts that offer support.

This workshop is essential for designers wishing to apply to SR:D in future, for those that have exhibited in the past to evaluate the benefits, and indeed for any designers to have an overview of how to interact with industry experts such as media and buyers.

The final SR:D Summer School session will be delivered by Fashion Industry Advisor David Watts. David will help you to establish ‘Do you have what it takes to run a successful fashion business?’ Essentially, what you need to consider when running a fashion brand, such as product planning, manufacturing, brand building, getting to market, buyers, sales and digital.

David Watts has a successful career in building and leading world class sales, marketing, creative development and brand strategies within the Fashion and Creative sectors. With a career spanning more than thirty years he has helped mentor and assist in the career development of some of Britain’s brightest designers.

We are also delighted that David will announce our SR:D 2015 award winners, who will follow in the footsteps of Kestin Hare, Holly Fulton and William Chambers and receive coaching towards international exporting.
