About Kirsteen Stewart
Kirsteen Stewart is a fashion and textiles designer based in the very north of Scotland. From starting her business at her kitchen table, Kirsteen now works in her Kirkwall studio and retail premises to create a series of accessories and capsule clothing collections.
The Kirsteen Stewart Collection began as a small range of leather accessories – produced in collaboration with a fairtrade charity for women in Bangladesh. From there, the collection has grown and evolved into an exciting selection of lambswool knitwear, printed silk scarves, embroidered jumpers and laser cut jewellery – alongside a new clothing collection to be released in the new year. These are crafted and produced under ethical conditions in Scotland before being hand finished in our studio and sent out to you.
Inspired by details – from everyday objects in far flung places, to patterns in our natural environment, to a porcelain teacup, or a piece of crochet work by her grandmother – Kirsteen begins each collection by creating a hand drawn surface design or motif.
These designs are then translated onto her products utilising a mixture of traditional and modern multimedia techniques – including knit, embroidery, digital printing, embossing, and laser cutting. The result? A collection of crafted, distinctive pieces with detailed, tactile embellishments and a contemporary finish.
